Installation Processes
General Installation Instructions for Eco Fleece:
Ecofleece® is pure NZ wool, polymer blended to produce a soft fluffy insulation blanket which is designed to fit snugly into walls, ceilings and under floors of new and existing homes. This beautiful pure wool blanket is a pleasure to handle, easy to install and environmentally safe.
Gather together the required amount of ecofleece, a tape measure, sharp scissors and a staple gun, a ladder and a light. Cut open the plastic packaging lengthwise with sharp scissors or a knife. Ecofleece is compression packed and will recover to normal thickness once removed from the packaging. Keep it dry. Ecofleece must remain dry during and after installation. Ensure it is protected from exposure to exterior or interior moisture and from damage. A vapour barrier (e.g. building paper) is recommended. Keep clear of recessed lighting and flues. Allow a space of at least 150mm (or read manufacturers specifications) around recessed lights, metal chimneys and flues.
Installing ecofleece in walls and underfloor:
Measure, tear and cut. Measure the space(s) between the wall framing in which the ecofleece is to be inserted.
Lay the roll on the floor and measure the required length for each space. Place in the space. Friction fit. No Gaps. Ensure that he edges are friction-fitted between all framing (a good snug fit) to achieve the full thermal performance, but try not to compress or fold it. Fill in any gaps around openings (conduits, piping, window or door frames etc). Ecofleece is easy to tear across, but always cut lengthwise with scissors. Fixing in place. Mostly, the ecofleece will stay in place with no requirement for further fixing. However in some places, eg. Under floor, and in some wall and ceiling installations, it may be necessary to staple it in place, or provide additional support (e.g. galvanised wire mesh, plastic strapping, fibre sheet or treated plywood).
Installing ecofleece in ceilings:
Unroll the full length of the insulation, fold it in half lengthwise and feed it through the ceiling hatch. Starting from the outside edge furthest from the hatch and working towards the hatch, lay the ecofleece over the whole ceiling, covering the joists wherever possible.
Where roll lengths are butted to form longer lengths, ensure there is no sagging, separation or gaps in the material. When it is not practical to lay ecofleece over the ceiling joists, then neatly lay ecofleece between the joists, on top of ceiling batons. Avoid compressing or folding. Ensure the edges are friction-fitted between all framing. Cut a piece to fit the ceiling hatch cover and staple it on top.
